the problem.
Most website chatbots are a dead end. They give canned replies, know nothing about the business they sit on, and loop politely when a visitor asks for a person. I wanted the chat on my own site to do the opposite — answer real questions from the site’s real content, capture the enquiry, and step aside the moment someone wants a human.
what I built.
A custom AI chatbot plugin for WordPress, built in PHP on the OpenAI and Claude APIs and trained on this site’s own pages, solutions and portfolio. The knowledge base syncs automatically when content changes, so answers stay current without anyone retraining anything — and a knowledge-gaps report shows which questions the bot couldn’t answer, so the gaps get filled instead of repeated.
The part most bots get wrong is the exit. When a visitor asks for a person, this one doesn’t loop — it opens a human handoff, sends an alert so the message is not missed, and holds the conversation until it’s taken over from an inbox in the WordPress admin. Around that core: lead capture, spam protection, business-hours awareness, a design panel that matches the widget to any brand, and the visitor’s right to have their conversation data deleted on request.
